“From the brightest quicksilver to the palest lace-agate blue, from the darkest sapphire to the hardest steel, the skies of 2007 were mercurial in temperament and complexion. Ghostly clouds billowed into the heavens, system after system, front upon front, bringing heavy gun-grey curtains of rainfall and towering skyscraper storm clouds, thunder and lightning. Never had we seen or experienced a summer like it; gone were the pleasant warm summer days where azure skies met fields of emerald wheat and barley. Instead, pastureland and meadow welled up, then flooded, with the torrential tears of the heavens. If a sign were ever needed that times are changing, this summer seemed to mark the sad passing of one age to another, where the idyllic, innocent and peaceful finally came face to face with the unpredictable, the chaotic and the extreme. Yet, still the crop circles came. In a strange parallel to the drama in the skies, the circles continued their persistent march across our fields; like the clouds, they came in such numbers and with such intensity and power, we were left in no doubt of the import and urgency of their intent.”
